About SAPPORO CITY JAZZ
Sapporo City Jazz began in 2007 as an urban jazz festival and celebrates its 19th edition this year.
Since 2018, the main live venue has shifted from the Music Tent in Odori Park (2-chome) to the Sapporo Cultural Arts Theater hitaru. Various events are held throughout the year at venues like Sapporo Art Park and other locations across the city.
In 2025, the festival will run from July 19 to November 24.
In July, our Park Jazz Live event will take place at Sapporo Art Park and 10 or more locations throughout the city. Around 200 professional and amateur bands, totaling about 1,200 performers, will participate, bringing jazz to Sapporo's summer. We will also be holding the Park Jazz Live Contest. Enjoy passionate performances as bands compete for the opportunity to perform at overseas jazz festivals.
In November, the original Theater Jazz Live by City Jazz will be held over five days on the stage of the Sapporo Cultural Arts Theater hitaru. Events like the accessible Universal Jazz Live with commentary and the Jazz Library for enjoying jazz through books will take place at the Sapporo Community Plaza.
Throughout the year, various jazz programs are conducted, including collaborations with companies and organizations, and initiatives for nurturing the next generation through jazz. Citizen volunteers known as "Jazz Savers" support the operation Sapporo City Jazz.
We invite you to experience the sound of the city and join us in making 2025 another unforgettable year of Jazz.

This immersive experience features cutting-edge sound systems, visuals, and vibrant lighting.
Enjoy jazz in a luxurious setting that feels like a world away from the everyday.
Collaboration with Companies and Organizations

Free jazz live performances held at Chi-Ka-Ho, a bustling underground walkway, offering a casual experience for people on their way home from work. Held six times a year, featuring jazz musicians primarily based in Sapporo.

A collaborative live event with Rusutsu Resort. During the winter season, long-running live performances are held daily, featuring musicians selected by City Jazz and other active artists from Hokkaido.
Jazz Promotion Programs

An inclusive performance with commentary designed under the concept of "jazz for everyone." Great for first-time listeners of jazz and individuals with disabilities, offering an approachable and enjoyable experience.

Promoting Civic Participation

A participatory live event under the theme: "Transforming Sapporo into a City of Jazz." Professional and amateur musicians from across Japan perform free concerts at venues throughout the city. Free live performances take place at various venues throughout Sapporo, enveloping the city in music. Enjoy various styles of performances at your favorite locations.

Volunteer staff supporting the events of Sapporo City Jazz.
Operational volunteers handle tasks like reception, stage emceeing, and venue setup, while photography volunteers document the events. If you love music and want to be part of something special, join Jazz Savers and help energize Sapporo through jazz.
Nurturing the Next Generation

A Jazz school for elementary and junior high school students, based at Sapporo Art Park.
The activities at the school aim to nurture children's rich sensibilities through jazz, while also helping them develop self-expression and teamwork skills. In addition to regular weekend practices, students also perform at events held in Sapporo Art Part and throughout the local community.

A live contest where 10 bands, selected from around 100 applicants, compete for a spot at an international jazz festival. Don't miss the intense, high-energy performances!

Under the slogan, "Revitalizing Communities Through Junior Jazz!" this project brings together schools from five regions of Hokkaido (Hiroo, Foothills of Mt. Yotei, Makubetsu, Sunagawa, and Sapporo). They hold joint workshops and performances throughout the year, fostering musical exchange and connection.
