ABOUT SAPPORO CITY JAZZ

Launched as an urban jazz festival in 2007, Sapporo City Jazz marks its 18th year in 2024. In 2018, the main venue for live performances was changed from the Music Tent in Odori Park (2-chome) to Sapporo Cultural Arts Theater hitaru. The festival has used various locations across the city, including Sapporo Art Park, to host a diverse array of events year-round.
In 2024, the festival will run from July 13 to December 10. In July, “Park Jazz Live” will be held at Sapporo Art Park and approximately ten other locations in the city. The event features around 200 professional and amateur bands comprising 1,200 performers, infusing Sapporo’s summer with jazz. In August, the outdoor stage at Sapporo Art Park will host “North JAM ‘Picnic’ Session,” where attendees can enjoy jazz, food, and drinks in a laid-back picnic setting amidst natural splendor.
In December, the original live performances from Sapporo City Jazz, “Theater Jazz Live,” will run for six days at Sapporo Cultural Arts Theater hitaru. In addition, “Universal Jazz Live,” which features jazz performances with commentary that are inclusive and enjoyable for everyone, and “Jazz Library,” an event where visitors can explore jazz through books, will be held at the Sapporo Community Plaza.
Throughout the year, Sapporo City Jazz offers various jazz programs, including collaborations with businesses and organizations, and initiatives to nurture the next generation of jazz enthusiasts. In addition, Sapporo City Jazz is supported by citizen volunteers known as “Jazz Savers,” who assist with its operations. Sapporo City Jazz looks forward to welcoming everyone to this year’s programs.
